Many people who are looking to start a new life in Canada have been impacted by the enormous delays in processing several immigration applications. As of May 2024, there are 2.22 million pending applications in various categories, including as citizenship, temporary residence, and permanent residency. Approximately 878,400. o these applications are taking longer to complete than the typical processing periods established by Immigration, Refugees, and  Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

What’s Behind the Delays?

Temporary resident applications, which include work permits and visitor visas, are among the most delayed. There have been an increase in applications and so a there are currently alot of pending requests like that of temporary residence visas and work permit applications both up to 50%. But still there are some improvements like that of citizenship application which has been facing alot of delays in application rate has recently reduced to about 17%. And the Express entry program also has seen a faster processing rate, there is only about 25% of cases currently being delayed

Steps IRCC is Taking

The IRCC is actively working to reduce delays through several measures:

Better Technology: New tools are being introduced to make application processing faster and more efficient.

More Workers: Since more and more applications have been coming in the ministry has employed more workers in order to keep up the pace

Direct Priorities: The short timespan for processing study permits and citizenships just goes to show that the focused efforts we’ve been putting in has been paying off.

The Importance of This

By 2024, Canada plans to welcome 485,000 new immigrants, one of its ambitious immigration goals. To accomplish these goals and guarantee that applicants face less delays, the backlog must be reduced. Candidates may find it easier to navigate the system if they are well-prepared and keep up with any modifications.. While challenges remain, particularly for temporary visa categories, improvements are slowly taking shape, making the system more accessible for future immigrants.
